INGREDIENTS
1 cup flour½ teaspoon fine salt½ teaspoon baking powder1 egg½ cup milk
Coating:¼ cup flour spread out on a plate for dipping onion rings
Garnish:Spring onion, parsley, variation of your own spices or herbs or even sesame / kulunji seeds.
METHOD
1. Heat a frying pan or saucepan with oil.2. Cut 2 large onions in thick slices across & place on a tea towel to drain excess liquid.3. Dip onion rings into flour & then coat with batter.4. Drop gently into hot oil & fry for a few seconds until golden. Remove & drain excess oil. Serve hot with a variety of food dishes or just simply enjoy on its own.
INFO & TIPS
Flour variations:
Use chili-bite mix or plain channa flour for a spicy twist! Add chopped mint, coriander & spring onion.
Item variations to batter:
This batter can be used to coat fish, prawns, potato wedges/strips for chips, sliced brinjals, peppers, stuffed jalepeno’s, Patha/Pateria & even cooked chicken fillet strips.
