INGREDIENTS
                      1 ½ cups chana dhal soak it in hot water . 
for the chicken :
1 chicken cut into 8 to 10 pieces or even smaller if you can .
oil 
1 big onion chopped or 2 small 
all the whole spices approx 4 of each 
1 teaspoon garlic 
1 teaspoon ginger 
1 teaspoon red chili paste 
2 teaspoon dhana powder 
1 teaspoon jeera powder 
½ teaspoon haldi 
salt to taste 
2 tomatoes grated or pureed 
1 tablespoon achaar masala 
chopped dhania (coriander) for garnish 
                    
METHOD
                      if you have a pressure cooker pop the dhal in with some water and soften it , approx 3 whistles . 
if not boil it until soft , must be nice and soft .
chicken :
Add the oil , whole spices and onions to a pot allow onions to braise until golden .
Add the ginger , garlic and red chili paste and saute until you get the aromas , add the chicken and the remaining spices allow the chicken to cook till almost done . 
add the tomatoes and the soften dhal and allow the tomato water to dry , add the achaar masala and cook little more . add some water if very dry . 
garnish with dhania (coriander) .
serve with roti and kachumbar
