INGREDIENTS
For the pie dough
1 ¼ cup plain flour1 teaspoon baking powderPinch of salt75g softened butter¼ cup cold water
For the steak filling
-1 ½ cups steak (cubed)-1 teaspoon salt-¾ teaspoon Black pepper-1 teaspoon ginger/garlic-½ teaspoon green masala-butter-1 small onion (cubed)-3 tblspns fresh cream (optional)-1 ½ cups sliced mushrooms- 1 large potato (peeled and finely cubed)
Other ingredientsFennel seedsDried oreganoWhisked egg white
METHOD
Method for dough1.) Rub butter into flour then add the salt and baking powder. add water to form a soft but firm dough.2.) Divide dough in half and roll into 2 equal sized rectangle shapes (same size as the baking dish), place one rectangle at the bottom of the baking dish and leave the other aside.
Method for the filling
1.)melt butter, add onions, braise till soft, add steak, salt, pepper, green masala, mushrooms and garlic - cook till half done then add ¼ cup water and the potatoes - cook on medium heat till the steak and potato are tender.-remove from cooker -add fresh cream and leave to cool-once cool, transfer onto the pastry that’s formed a shell in the baking tray.-then cover with the other rolled out rectangular pastry sheet and pinch the ends all around to seal the pie.-brush with egg whites, sprinkle fennel seed and oregano.-Bake at 180 degrees for 20-30mins till golden brown.
INFO & TIPS
This dough can also be filled with a polony and chips filling or a chicken filling of your choice.
