1 ½ cup flour 1 teaspoon bicarb 1 cup walnuts (I used half cup almonds) chopped 100 g butter ¾ cup sugar ½ cup water 1 cup dates (pitted) - around 200g 1 egg lightly beaten
Preheat oven to 180°C. Place flour and bicarb in a bowl. Whisk to mix. Add nuts and mix through. Combine butter, sugar, water and dates in a saucepan. Stir over medium heat until combined. Cool and then add gradually to dry mixture. Add egg and stir until combined. Fold in to a greased loaf pan. Bake for approximately 40-45 minutes. Enjoy with your hot cup of tea/coffee.
