1 teaspoon dry instant yeast¾ cups warm milk2½ cups flour⅓ cup granulated sugar (+1tbs)2 tablespoon milk powder1 egg +1 egg yolk40g butter (room temp)1 teaspoon vanilla
For the egg wash:1 eggA splash of milk
1. In a bowl mix together ¼ cup warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon sugar. Set it aside until fluffy around 7-10 minutes. 2. In a large bowl, add the flour, remaining milk (½ cup), sugar, milk powder, salt, eggs, and the foamed yeast. Mix until combined. Cover with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rest at room temperature for around 10 minutes.3. After 10 minutes, knead the dough in a stand mixer or by hand. Gradually add in the room temperature butter and vanilla, (if you'd like to add any other flavourings now is the time to) and continue to knead for 10-15 minutes. 4. Transfer the dough to a bowl and brush with oil. Cover with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and let it rest in a warm place until doubled in size for around 1½-2 hours.5. Using a rolling pin or your hand, roll out the dough into a rectangle, fold and shape the dough (as in the video). Cut each piece into 3 equal pieces, gently roll out each piece into long strips (I wanted the middle of my bread to be wider then the edges, so to do that, make the ends of the strips thinner and the middle part a little thicker. If you want a neat equally braided bread, I don't suggest doing so.)Braid as shown in the video. Transfer the braided bread onto parchment paper or a greased oven tray then cover it and let rest for 40-45 minutes (depending on the room temp) until doubled in size (rises faster in a warm area)6. Brush with egg wash (whisk on egg +a splash of milk) and top with topping of your choice I used sesame seeds you can also use almonds or poppy seeds...7. Place in a preheated oven at 175°C bake for 25 minutes until golden
