My beloved mums recipe.
رَّبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا
1 cup pink dhal 1 cup yellow dhal ( makni dhal, yellow moongh) Wash well & soak over night Rinse of dhal. Add clean water, some oil, 1 teaspoon crushed red chillies, 2 whole green chillies, 2 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon arad (Turmeric) and allow this to cook until dhal is soft & cooked away. Make wagaar of the following In a pan heat 3 tablespoon ghee (Clarified butter) to this add one sliced onion saute until soft. When onions is starting to brown add mix seeds ( found @ spice shops). Add 1 teaspoon mix masala, 1 teaspoon crushed red chillies ,1/ 2 teaspoon arad (Turmeric) , 2 whole green chillies, few whole garlics & braise for 1 minutes. Add 1 small grated tomatoes & curry leaves. Allow this to cook on medium heat until oil comes up. Add to the dhal & cook until well blended. Garnish with fresh dhania (coriander) and spring onions. Enjoy. Very tasty. Serve with rice, branjils,aloo fry & any meat dish. Any veggies of choice is a great accompaniment with this dhal
