2 cups flour
2 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon butter
1 cup maas
Sift flour and baking powder then rub in butter till mixture resembles breadcrumbs, then add the maas and mix. Place mixture in fridge for 2 hours. Then plait and deep fry.
To make syrup I use 2 cups sugar and 1 cup water dip koeksusters in syrup keep it soaked for about 30 seconds then sprinkle coconut over.
Tip from Tasneem Salajee is to make the syrup first and once cooled keep in freezer and keep stirring. Then dip hot koeksusters in cold syrup.
