INGREDIENTS
Boston Bread

½ cup dates, chopped
½ cup pecans, chopped
1 cup sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon bicarb
125gr butter OR margarine
1 cup boiling water
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon mixed spice
METHOD
Put dates and pecans into a mixing bowl.
Mix in sugar, salt and bicarb.
Cut margarine into pieces and add in.
Pour in boiling water and whisk until margarine has melted.
Add egg and
whisk lightly.
Sift in the rest of the dry ingredients and whisk until smooth.
Bake in a greased loaf pan at 180deg for 30-40 minutes or until done.
*I make it in a ring pan...
