RECIPE
1kg puff pastry2 cups chopped dates2 tablespoon sugar2 tablespoon butter¼ teaspoon salt½ teaspoon bicarb. of sodaBeaten eggJamDesiccated coconut
Method:Melt butter and sugar, add dates, saltand bicarb.Mix till softened.Allow to cool.Roll out pastry on floured surface.Cut into rectangles.On one half of rectangle cut into strips.Spoon in date filling.Brush egg on end pastry will fold over on.Twist strips and press down on brushed egg.Brush top of pastry with egg.Bake in preheated oven at 180 degC till puffed and golden. As taken out of oven, brush on jam and sprinkle coconut.Serve warm.
