1 cup chopped dates1 cup boiling water1 teaspoon bicarb1 cup castor sugar¼ cup butter1 egg1 teaspoon vanilla1 ½ cups sifted flour1 teaspoon b.powderPinch saltPour boiling water over chopped dates...add bicarb and leave to steep..Cream butter and sugar...add egg and vanilla and beat well...sift dry ingred and add to above...add date mixture...pour into greased pan..bake @180 for +-45 minutes...Topping:5 tablespoon fresh cream5 tablespoon brown sugar2 tablespoon butterBoil for 15minutes...Pour over cake...sprinkle nuts or dust icing sugar ontop...njy
