INGREDIENTS
12 slices White Bread, with crust removedButter (enough to butter the bread with)3 tablespoons raisins3 tablespoons Sultanas3 Eggs1/ 4 orange juice 500 ml (2 cups) Milk4 tablespoons Brown Sugar and a little more for sprinkling 1 tablespoon Vanilla EssenceA pinch of ground Nutmeg
METHOD
Butter the bread slices and cut into quarters, then layer the bread (buttered sides upwards) in a small saucepan boil the raisins and sultanas in the orange juice for 15 minutes. Remove and then sprinkle over the bread in an ovenproof dish.Beat the eggs, milk, sugar and vanilla essence together and pour it over the buttered bread. Add the nutmeg over the top and sprinkle over a little sugar.Leave for half an hour to allow the custard to soak into the bread.Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for approximately 1 hour until golden brown
INFO & TIPS
You can even use hot cross buns or ciabatta instead of normal white bread
