INGREDIENTS
1 cup chana dhal 1 x Onion 3 x Tomatoes 2 x green chillies (whole)1 teaspoon Jeeru (Cumin) 1 ½ teaspoon dhana Jeeru (Cumin) 1 teaspoon red chilli powder 1 teaspoon curry powder 1 teaspoon crushed garlic1 teaspoon ginger garlic ½ teaspoon sugar ½ teaspoon fresh ginger¼ cup butter/ ghee (Clarified butter)Salt to tastedhania (coriander) for decorating
METHOD
1. Rinse and boil dhal until soft -not mush
2. In a pot, start by braiding your onions in oil along with your Jeeru (Cumin) and chillies
3. Once the onions are golden brown , add in all the spices ( dhana , red chilli powder, ginger garlic wet masala , crushed garlic.
4. Add grated tomatoes and ½ teaspoon sugar. Let the tomatoes cook in forming a chutney
5. Once the tomatoes are cooked , add in your butter and salt
6. Add in the dhal and let it cook on low heat for +/- 10 minutes so that the dhal absorbs the flavours. ( you can add in desired amount of water)
7. Serve with hot roti or naan

INFO & TIPS
This dish is known for its ghee , so don’t be shy to add in butter- the more butter, the richer and creamier the dish :)
I only add the dhal once the water from the tomatoes has cooked out thoroughly.
