INGREDIENTS
1 c of lukewarm milk1 sachet yeast ( purple anchor)1 TB brown sugar1 egg beaten1 teaspoon salt⅓ c of butter (softened)¼ c of sugar3 and ¼ c of flourEgg for egg washBlack poppy,kalonji seeds, sesame seeds or fennel seeds for the top
METHOD
1. To the lukewarm milk,add in the sachet of yeast and 1TB of sugar.Leave aside for a few minutes until yeast is bubbly.
2. In a bowl add all other ingredients besides the butter. Add the yeast mixture to your flour and start mixingWhen the dough comes together add the butter. Knead for 10 minutes.( the dough should be smooth and pliable by now)
3. Place dough in a well -oiled bowl and cover with cloth. Leave in a warm place for one hour.
4. When dough has doubled in size,punch down and shape as desired. Leave for ten minutes before brushing with egg wash and sprinkle sesame seeds or seeds of your choice.
5. Bake bread in a preheated oven 180 C for 20 to 25 minutes depending on the size of your loaf.
INFO & TIPS
Serve hot with butter
Goes well with a gravy-curry
I used black poppy seeds and fennel seeds for the top.
Make milk lukewarm by microwaving for 30 seconds. Milk must not be hot just lukewarm.
