2 large onions
3⁄4 cup flour
1⁄4 cup mielie meal
1⁄2 teaspoon baking powder
1⁄2 teaspoon salt
1⁄4 teaspoon bicarb. of soda
1⁄4 teaspoon chilli powder
1⁄4 teaspoon turmeric powder
+/- 1 cup buttermilk
Oil for deep frying
Slice onions into thickish rings.
Mix dry ingredients together.
Mix egg and buttermilk together.
Add wet to dry mixing till smooth.
Dip rings in batter and fry for few minutes until golden brown and crispy.
Drain excess oil on kitchen paper.
Serve as a side dish or a starter with dipping sauce.
