Tin fish curry served with soft, fluffy pap — budget meal but full of bold flavour!🔥🍛
This tin fish curry is a weekday winner 🍛🔥
🐟 Tin Fish Curry (South African Style)
Serves 3–4 | Prep time: 10 minutes | Cook time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
1 tin (410g) Lucky Star pilchards in tomato sauce
2 tablespoon oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 tomato, grated or finely chopped
1 green chili (optional), sliced
1 teaspoon garlic paste
1 teaspoon ginger paste
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander
½ teaspoon turmeric
1½ teaspoon chilli powder (adjust to taste)
Salt to taste
Fresh coriander for garnish
Optional: 1 small potato, cubed and parboiled

Method:
1. Heat oil in a pan. Add onions and sauté until golden brown.
2. Add garlic and ginger. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
3. Add tomato , chopped green chillies and all spices. Cook on medium heat until the tomato breaks down and oil separates (about 5-7 minutes).
4. (Optional) Add the parboiled potatoes and cook for another 5 minutes. I add potatoes if serving with bread.
5. Add the tin fish with sauce.
6. Simmer on low heat for 5-8 minutes. Taste and adjust salt or chili.
7. Garnish with chopped coriander.
🍚 Serve with:
Steamed white rice
As a side with Kari kitchri
Soft rotis
Fresh bread for scooping up the sauce
