Wa alaikumussalam. I havnt tried it in any other way. But i think the trick is to cook the potatoes in the cream.. I guess you can try baking the entire time in the oven without the cheese and before its completely done put your grated cheese on top just for it to melt. Hope that hels.

Wslm... U Can use hinds southern coating... Or make ur own by adding 1 tsp aromat, 1 tsp chilli powder, 1/2 tsp black pepper salt 1 tsp dried oregano about a tsp baking powder for 1 cup flour
